“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time”

THE ARTIST

Recognized for her painting style that exhibits themes of surrealism and abstract images, Annsley Humble was born in Monticello, Kentucky, and now resides in Somerset, Kentucky where her works can be found on display at the local Makers Mill. Annsley’s artistic ability was evident from a young age, and she credits her whimsical, empowering style and individuality to her love of nature and anything offbeat, and also to her being raised in a small, southern town where art in general was not promoted. This lack of emphasis on the arts ignited Annsley’s spirit to paint even more, and helped give her the drive to become the artist she is today.

Annsley’s avant-garde-esque paintings express the artist’s own inner feelings while also evoking emotion in those who view them as well. Symbolizing concepts such as the actuality of being a woman, one’s search for identity, and a love for life, Annsley utilizes eccentric color palettes that are complemented by her use of thick, prominent black lines and accents to portray realistic figures that seamlessly morph into perplexing, impressionistic portrayals of the artist’s mind. To further draw viewers in, Annsley incorporates a mixed-media aspect to her works through the use of gold leaf and differing materials for texture that invite spectators to consider their feelings of the art they are seeing, which is guided by an aesthetic that inspires a deep, ruminative response.
